8-day Backpacker's Choice Tour

For those who want to see every single tourist spot in North Korea with limited budget, this Backpacker's Choice Tour is for you. This package will take you further to remote cities as well as some of the most famous mountains in Korean Peninsula.


Day 1

  • Gathering at our meeting sport for a mandatory pre-tour group briefing in Dandong at 8:00am.
  • Train departs for Sinuiju at 10:00am for the extensive border control from North Korea side.
  • Train arrives in Pyongyang Station at 5:30pm.
  • Short visit local school.
  • Welcome dinner party in the hotel.

Day 2

  • Walk through Mansudae fountain park and see the mosaic pictures of President Kim Il Sung and the leader Kim Jong Il.
  • Visit Mansudae Grand Monument to pay respects to the President Kim Il Sung and the Leader Kim Jong Il. (Optional extra- you can present flowers if you wish: 6 USD per bunch).
  • Foreign Language Bookshop - with a large selection of books in English and other European Languages as well as other souvenirs.
  • Pass through Arch of Triumph - Massive archway commemorating the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule.
  • Visit the Juche Tower - monument to the everlasting Juche Ideology (optional 6 USD to go to the top)
  • Final stop of the day is Monument to the Party Foundation, an iconic structure featuring the hammer, sickle, writing brush which represent the workers, farmers, and intellectuals that make up the Worker's Party of Korea. 

Day 3

  • Car transfer to one of the most popular tourist attractions - Mt. Myohyang (3 Hours)
  • Hiking experience in Mt. Myohyang
  • Visit International Friendship Exhibition where displays gifts of all kinds given to North Korea leaders by foreign states, leaders and orgazinations.
  • Stop by Pohyong Buddhist Temple, a peaceful temple built in 11 century with stone pagoda and repository of a print blocks and historic text of the Tripitaka Koreana.

Day 4

  • Go to Kaesong city in the early morning. (2.5 hours)
  • Panmunjom DMZ Village- see the DMZ and the treaty and conferences rooms where the armstice was signed all in the company of a friendly KPA officer guide (Photos are allowed here)
  • Tomb of King Kongmin - the only original tomb of it's kind still standing in the DPRK.
  • Visit birthplace and childhood home of President Kim Il Sung - Mangyongdae Native House.
  • Pass through Monument to the Three Charters of National Reunification on the way back to Pyongyang.

Day 5

  • Car transfer to Mt Kumgang region where is dotted with wonderful scenic spots, valleys, waterfalls, coastline and historic sites, best enjoyed on foot whilst taking in the fresh mountain air.
  • Visit Jongyang Temple which was constructed in the year 600. There are also remains of later Silla, Koryo and Ri dynasty works which have been preserved.

Day 6

  • Visit Kuryong Falls (Nine Dragons Waterfall). Reaching some 74 metres in height, it is an impressive sight, and there is a great hike to the top which is dotted with small rock pools.
  • There are great opportunities for hiking in Mount Kumgang area, with routes of varying lengths and grades. You will discuss with our guide to choose a suitable hiking rount for you.
  • Stop by Podok Hermitage. Situated in the delightful Manphok Valley of Inner Kumgang, the buildings were constructed in 1675 during the Ri dynasty. 

Day 7

  • Car transfer back to Pyongyang.
  • Experience Pyongyang Metro - ride a few stops on the famous Pyongyang Underground.
  • Farewell party and traditional Korean BBQ dinner.

Day 8

  • Visit souvenir shop before saying goodbye to North Korea. Items include various ginseng products, Kaesong liquor, stamps, traditional Korean spicy paste, dolls, Korean paintings and ceramics ...etc.
  • Train departures to Dandong at 10:40am .
  • Train arrives in Dandong at 4:23am.

Your tour leader will ensure, however, that everything available at the time is covered, and replacement options are provided where needed. We will also add in extras when there is time (such as a visit to a local bar or amusement park).
